Firmware corruption issues
Rare errors or unusual behaviors after firmware update
After a firmware update you may not be able to connect, this is normal, as sometimes the update requires reformatting the memory, so the memory will be erased. In this case you should proceed as if it were a first installation. You can write down the calibration values of the pumps, levels and other parameters, and enter them directly after the upgrade. But you will necessarily have to reconfigure the WiFi and calibrate the pH probe. Dosing won´t start immediately, as the system will have lost the analysis results and will need new ones to recalculate KH consumption. Take a look at the related article on when it will start dosing, to know when it will start dosing again, and how you can dose in an estimated way.
If after an update, you notice strange behavior, it could be that the installation was not performed correctly, and that there is some kind of corruption. These firmware corruption errors may occur after an update, but they are not frequent and are very difficult to categorize, as they are very random, or they may not occur immediately after updating, as it is possible that the function giving problems was not used immediately after updating, or that it is a conjunction of very specific circumstances.
To fix possible firmware corruption errors there are several processes you can perform to resolve it:
Solution 1. Reinstall the firmware:
- Simply go to Settings > Update firmware and select the same version you updated.
Solution 2. Do a reset:
This procedure will erase and reformat the settings memory, the settings will be erased. Once this is done, you should proceed as if it were a new installation. You can write down the calibration values of the pumps, levels and other parameters, and enter them directly after the procedure is done and after making sure that the problem has been corrected.
- Go to Configuration and select: Reset. Clear settings memory.
- Close the app, wait a few minutes and proceed as if it were a new installation.
Solution 3. 1 downgrade and 2 upgrades (partition reset):
To make sure that the chip partitions are completely reformatted, i.e. that all memory is erased and upgraded correctly you have to proceed as follows:
- Go to Configuration > Update firmware and select two versions below the last one, if for example the last version is 2.1, the previous one is 2.0 and the previous one is 1.9 select Select this, (the second to last: 1.9).
- Once updated (to version 1.9 in our example), just configure the WiFi and go again to Settings > Update firmware, this time select the immediately the previous version (2.0 in the example).
- Once updated (to version 2.0 in our example), just configure the WiFi and go back to Settings > Update firmware, this time select the latest version available (2.1 in the example).
- Close the app, reconfigure the WiFi and check that the problem is solved.
Sometimes there are versions that do not erase the memory, it is necessary to erase the memory in each process. In total you have to perform at least 3 updates with memory deletion, so it can be 1 downgrade and 2 upgrades, but also, 2 downgrades and an upgrade. The condition is that in each process the memory is erased, there must be at least 3 and finish with the latest version.
