KH Correction factor

Use it to correct difference between manual KH test (like Salifert) and autoBalance KH results

The autoBalance results are very reliable, however in some cases results could be different from real KH for some reasons:

  • User installation:
    • Usually the Water In tube length or position
    • The position where Water In collects the water
    • The position of the reagent tank.
  • Inaccurate mixing of the concentrated reagent.
  • Evaporation of the active ingredient from the reagent
  • Incorrect calibrations
  • Incorrectly calibrated probe

Check the guide of how to achieve accuracy in the related links. You may find the solution.

If any of these factors are constant over time, the KH will rise or fall the same in the autoBalance as with a manual test such as Salifert. If the swings do not follow the line of the manual tests go to the “KH results swings” section.

To check if the KH readings are correct even if they have a constant deviation you can do a 3 or 4 day follow-up with manual tests. We recommend using Salifert tests, and double check, and use tests from different batches. Manual tests also have a margin of error and can also fail. We recommend using Salifert tests, as they are the most reliable of the manual tests. Monitor for several days, with a few tests in one day you can not get true conclusions.

Procedure in case it makes sense to apply the correction factor:

  1. Launch an analysis from the App.
  2. Simultaneously and taking water from the same place as the autoBalance perform a manual test (Salifert) simultaneously. Collect the water from the same zone as autoBalance.
  3. Go to settings > Manual KH correction factor in the App
  4. Enter the KH value obtained with the manual test (Salifert).
  5. The system will calculate the correction factor and launch an analysis.
  6. The target KH does not change when changing the correction fator, but check the KH target if is the wanted target.

Example:

Target KH is: 7.80

  • autoBalance shows 6.55 on day 1 at 15:00. Salifert 7.40 (gap: 0.85 dKH)
  • autoBalance shows 6.69 on day 2 at 15:20. Salifert 7.60 (gap: 0.91 dKH)
  • autoBalance shows 6.84 on day one at 15:05. Salifert 7.70 (gap: 0.86 dKH).

The difference is stable, we enter 7.70 in the KH correction factor window, thereafter the system will calculate and apply a +0.86 as correction factor. The target KH will still be 7.80, but once the correction factor is applied it should start to lower the dosage amount since it is now closer to the target.
