Can induced current affect pH measurements?
Small electrical voltages induced in aquarium water can interfere with the pH probe signal
Small electrical voltages induced in aquarium water can interfere with the pH probe signal, causing unstable readings, fluctuations, or apparently incorrect values.
Pumps, heaters, skimmers, lighting systems and other electrical equipment can be the source of this interference.
How can I tell if this is the problem?
If the pH reading changes when you switch aquarium equipment on or off, electrical interference may be the cause.
To identify the source, temporarily disconnect the electrical equipment one by one and check whether the pH reading becomes stable.
How can I solve it?
If you identify the equipment causing the interference, check its condition and replace it if necessary.
If the source cannot be identified, or the interference is caused by several devices, a titanium grounding probe can help eliminate this interference by providing an electrical path to ground for the aquarium water.
Important: A grounding probe does not replace checking equipment that may have an electrical leak. If you suspect an electrical leak, disconnect the equipment and have it checked before using it again.
